Im gonna finish my europe tour once & 4 all!! :) plus why europe is overrated. lols.
Day 5&6: Venice
in the hotel. hahas. Venice hotel was the prettiest. Joeybaby booked it! :D my mom & me :)
outside hotel view. Gondolas! but we didnt take that coz we were warned by our neighbours who were there jst 2 days b4 us that is was super expensive & not worth the ride. so we took the taxi there!
this is the taxi there. a boat! coz everywhere in venice r rivers.
inside
On the way we saw this. flood! hahas. Venice always flood.
our destination: New Mvrano Gallery. It's actually a glass factory. It's Venice specialty.
The demostration of making glass. Blows it into a bubble. And to show us how hot it is, he put a paper into the glass. den it burst into flames!
after that was the exhibiton of their work pieces & we were not allowed to take pictures.
their pieces was quite nice & my daddy chose a glass horse which has one leg up. it means victory. & he has a jade horse with one leg up oso in his office =.=
a glass horse. guess how much it cost?
8200 euros.
den he say can give special price. bout 4900 euros plus shipping.
too ex, my daddy dun wan. siao lohhs. i keep telling him dun wan. might as well buy a real pony.
den he gave another price. say special price. other ppl dun have. 2900 euros. SG 5800. crazy. 4 a glass horse? no way lohs.
he said he will include a painting of artist plus there is signature of artist under horse belly & some declaration paper of the horse.
den he lowered it agn to 2100 euros. its like 1 quarter of the original 8200 euros. but i rmb when i was doing research on venice on the net, alot ppl complained that that factory was overly priced. & my parents said tourist attraction place always overpriced.
when we went back to town, we saw a horse only 400 euro.
wthhhhhh!! luckily we didnt buy or will kena cheated agn!! lols. so nxt time, tourist attraction cannot buy! unless its like 2 euros 4 a horse den can.
when we reached the "city" of venice, there was floooood! haha had to walk on these woody things.
some ppl like to waddle in the water. my siblings wanted to play in the water but the plastic bags shops sold were bloody 9.99 euros. SG 20 lehhs. crazy. i didnt wan coz its so dirty ><
Venice is a beauty right? :)
Daddy & Joeybaby outside some church.
masks r Venice's specialty. every year they will have a carnival & ppl will dress up with masks to supposedly scare off ghosts. hahas.
den it was bye bye Venice n hellooo Milan.
Milan. our suite. My daddy's trademark hat. hahas. so cute. some cathedral. did u know that a 100 yr old church is called a cathedral? now u know :) didnt take much photos bcause some idiot left the charger in the last hotel. & that idiot was me :/
Milan is the fashion capital of the world. & yet the shopping streets r nth like orchard rd. orchard rd is like 100000000000000 times better!!
their decoration is so plain!
lemme give an analogy. lols. This is SG's orchard lighting. they even put a smiley dwarf to make sure the atmosphere is happy.
This is Milan's.
btw, Milan, i stress agn the fashion capital of the world, ONLY HAS ONE SHOPPING CENTRE!! wthhhhhhhhhhh =.=
their shops instead line the roads. n when my neighbour who also went Milan, told us there was this HUGE boutique which we did not seeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. whatever. i cannot buy anyway. but i wanna seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! =(
Milan is not very nice to shop. Its very ex. Bot some stuff from factory outlets though. but we didnt get to go to the huge factory outlet which was out of town because there was no time. shucks =(
Next stop was Switzerland, Engelburg.
A winter wonderland. makings of a giant snowballlll. haha nope thats not Squishy.
We went to Mount Tiltis & their snow resort. see this slope? it's actually the slope that holds the annual world ski competition. We were lucky enuf to see the world competition which was held on 20th December :D
we tried out at Starterland where there lots of snow toys to try!!
We took snowboarding lessons from our coach, Seraphin. lols. by 1 lesson, we can snowboard alr!! yay!! but we fell down like 10000 times.
My brother Joel. coach says he's crazy. 2nd lesson he alr can snowboard down 2km slope =.= Joeybaby. and me. k lahh show u proper 1 but dun laugh!!
On the competition day, there were alot of ppl at the hotel so they hired this chef :D
Den we went on top of Mount Tiltis!! It was bloody cold. hahas. All of our gloves froze stiff. The view was absolutely astounding & breath taking. Heavens.
We were so damn relunctant to leave Engelburgggg esp my brother coz he wanted to snowboard. i think he has some serious potential too. lols too bad SG no snow. hahas.
Our last stop was Lucerne. Our room. ahhas.
At the lion monument! dinnered at Joel's! lols.
the 16days was heavenly.
THE GOOD & BAD OF EUROPE.
Alot of ppl dream to go to Europe because they have heard stories of such a heavenly place. I also have been to France.
It would be nice to have a holiday there...but living there?
The standard of living there is definitely overrated & Europe turns out to not be as beautiful as i tot.
TRANSPORTATION: like shit. sg is so much more advanced then them.
CLEANINESS: its awfully dirty there. i never ever ever ever wanna live there. GRAFFITI is everywhere in europe. it's almost like it's legal to vandalize! almost every street i walk past had graffiti. & the train tunnel walls(their train tunnels r wide & not concealed) has graffiti.
it just gives me the impression of a country w/o control over the ppl. it's almost like they can do anything they want even if it tarnishes the country's image. this might hav led to high crime rates which i will explain lata in security.
i dont mind living in a country like Singapore which has said to have tough laws, rules & many restrictions because in the end we benefit trememdously from it.
so whoever the big WHO-WHO in USA who is attacking Lee Kuan Yew for the way he governs Singapore, jst stop it.
but bout the late opposition, it's another thing & i dare not say in case i get sued by the government.
well, i might be going USA nxt yr so i can see the "free" country's conditions.
do you ever see this in Sg?
THIS IS THEIR FLOOR. everywhere on the pavement, stairs & everywhere is spotted. Guess what r those? DRIED OR NOT DRIED SPIT, CHEWING GUM & SHIT. now i know why Sg bans chewing/bubble gum & i absolutely think it shld be!
n oh yes ppl including girls who looks so damn refined spits onto pavements. they dont even bother spitting into drains or smth. omggg.
n if ppl were know where we were from, they would say "oh its the cleanest country in the world!"
i so damn agree. & their country is really dirty.
SHOPPING + COST OF LIVING(COL):
In Italy: Everything here is super expensive. Their Macdonald's hav the same numerical price as SG but it is in EUROS.
so, according to the Big Mac theory(you can Google it), their cost of living is bout TWICE the cost of living in SG.
One meal, cost us at LEAST SG$30. The most we ate was SG$6O per person. that one no choice, we stepped inside wrong restaurant.
It really sucks to live there.
den, as if COL not high enuf, shopping have to be super ex oso! & i have been hearing stories that Italy is very popular for shopping.
WHAT NONSENSE!
We walked dunno how many streets & every shop was super expensive. Even a super ugly shoe ON SALE costs SG$40.
so we tot that maybe they r talking bout shooping for luxury brands, so we went to take a look & none was cheaper. It was supposedly to be cheaper by 30% but no it wasnt. only 12% cheaper coz 7% tax rebate & 5% is standard discount.
& we read the newspapers that for the first time ever, Milano's luxury brands was having sale because of the reccession. So, we were super duperly excited but cannot find the shops.
My neighbour, who was also at Milan 2 days b4 us, bought SIX BAGS FROM PRADA & CHANEL.
they were like, "did u see this super big 2 storey Prada shop in Milan???!"
"No," we replied glumly.
"WHAT??! Than how bout the Chanel -"
"No,"
Lols. Pity.
We were not interested to see LV & Fendi & they were literally everywhere.
Anw, we shopped at any nice shops we saw along the way & shopped at H&M!
it's a nice europe based shop that might be soon available in SG.
it's smth like Topshop but surprisingly it's much cheaper than Topshop.
Also there was some small shops which we shopped at.
But mostly, can only window shop coz its super ex. It's VERY VERY SIAN.
Overall for Italy, SHOPPING SUCKS!!! =/
For Switzerland, it's very different. haha Switzerland is so much better to shop in. Their home grown luxury brands such as Bally are not as high end as LV, Prada or Chanel. Prices 4 LV, Prada, Chanel r 25%-45% more expensive den Bally in Switzerland.
But in SG, their prices r bout the same. Dunno why too =/
Moreover, they oso hav small shops lining the streets & prices r quite okay as they were having Xmas sale.
We bought most of our stuff from there although we only spend 6 out of 16 days in Switzerland!!!
Our happiest shopping time was shopping in Bally coz there was 50% sale!!! Super exciteddddd. Bot some stuff. Liked the staff alot. They explained coz Bally is a Swiss brand, it is much cheaper in Switzerland den in Asia. Somemore got 50% sale!!
For example, my daddy bought his shoes(which look exactly like the rest of his shoes) from there & after discount it cost CHF 300++.
In SG, we went to check at the airport duty free, the same shoe was SG 1300++.
That was the only time we were super happy shopping!!
but there was this Bally shoe we did not get because it was abit big 4 my mom but me & my sis can wear!!
My daddy was like NO coz it was abit big 4 my mom.
saddnesssss totally regretted not buying that shoe it was so damn gorgeous. sighs.
Overall, shopping in Switzerland was not bad :)
So nxt time if u r going Italy or Switzerland, you can be rest assured these brands r cheaper to buy :)
Italy: NONE CHEAPER TO BUY. Unless u know & researched which street & boutique to buy from which we did not.
Switzerland:
1. Bally (very very very worth it) 2. Calvin Klein 3. Tagheuer 4. Omega 5. Rolex Sports 6. Hugo Boss 7. Jennifer Lopez perfume haha (half price in Switzerland) 8. Swatch of coz
Some brands r Swiss made but r not cheaper like Chopard. DO NOT BUY it can b few thousand more den SG.
Anw, this time we did not buy much but i will show u my best buy in Europe.
. . . . . . .. . ... . . . It's my new baby. (don't worry Squishy i wun throw u away.)
It's a small bag. The straps can be adjust 4 casual & night wear.
There r only 6 pieces in the world. All of which r only available in Switzerland.
This baby will be featured on Bally's Spring collection 2009 highlight which will only b available in SG in March.
I shall not disclose the price.
I'm sure all the 6 pieces r snapped up alrr. super happy with this buy! :D
SECURITY:
1. Trains - 4 all the train rides we took from city to city, only a few had train conductors to punch our tix. Otherwise, ppl can ride for free. & alot of times we noticed free riders that ride for free in 1st class. wthhh!! free lehhhs!! nobody checks!! OMG.
2. PICKPOCKETS: this one is a big concern for tourists because Europe is notorious 4 its pickpocketing. N it's awfully true & they work in syndicates.
there was once, i was in this very crowded train in Milan then ppl were standing very very close to each other.
A short girl was beside me. She put her PRADA bag above my sling. i was quite off guard because my stop was jst the nxt stop, she took Prada, she looked young(ard my age) & she was with a group of girls oso.
Shockingly, the moment the train stopped at the nxt stop, she & her frens zipped out of the train in a flash.
Sensing smth amiss i quickly checked my sling & when i flipped open the flap, my bag zip was wide open alr.
Luckily, i always brought extra tops in case of was cold & stuffed them on top of all my valuables.
I last saw her entering the crammed train in another cabin.
must catch this kind of ppl.
HOUSING: Terrible. I cant believe Europe has this kind of housing conditions.
There r many other teriible houses & even slums. I dont think SG has slums.
Their houses look like raw cement, some not even painted, eroding & very dirty. conditions r quite bad.
PEOPLE:
Italy: People r very snobbish the moment they see that u r Asian.
When u step into shops, most people would pretend not to notice u. Asking 4 directions is like talking to a walking wall. Swtizerland: Is more friendly.
OVERALL, i might return to Italy. And i wanna go back to Switzerland. But i never ever wanna live in either countries coz i love sunny days too much. ahahs.
But still i enjoyed Europe thoroughly =D
NEXT STOP, HONG KONGGGGGG!! :D
i have to work woRk WORK!!
hahas.
anw, i did nth but blog, eat & LOOKED at online shops 2day. hahas.
